Community Outreach
Location: New Orleans, Louisiana
Work Arrangement: On-site

Position Overview
The Community Outreach Intern will support BSLA's community outreach, harm reduction, health education, and mutual aid programming.
This position is ideal for students interested in public health, social work, community health, health education, sociology, psychology, or nonprofit work who want hands-on experience engaging directly with communities.
Responsibilities
- Participate in community and street-based outreach.
- Assist with distribution of harm reduction and basic-needs supplies.
- Support HIV/STI testing events and outreach activities.
- Share information about PrEP, PEP, HIV/STI prevention, and other health resources.
- Assist with community events and BSLA programming.
- Support supply preparation, inventory, and kit packing.
- Document outreach activities and collect appropriate program data.
- Participate in team meetings, supervision, and debriefs.
Preferred Qualifications
We especially encourage students interested in harm reduction, HIV/STI prevention, health equity, mutual aid, sexual health, substance use, homelessness, and community-based healthcare to apply.
Previous outreach or healthcare experience is not required.
Important Note
This is an unpaid internship. BSLA is happy to work with students seeking academic credit, practicum hours, or field placement requirements.
Clinical services and testing activities will only be performed by interns who have completed the appropriate training and under required supervision.
Public Health Programs

Position Overview
The Public Health Programs Intern will support the development, implementation, evaluation, and day-to-day coordination of BSLA's public health programming.
This position is designed for students who want experience beyond traditional classroom learning and are interested in how community-based public health programs actually operate.
Depending on the intern's interests, responsibilities may include program coordination, data collection, outreach planning, health education, program evaluation, grant support, and community needs assessment.
Responsibilities
- Assist with planning and implementation of public health programs.
- Support HIV/STI testing and prevention programming.
- Assist with community outreach and health education.
- Collect and organize program data.
- Assist with data quality and reporting.
- Support supply inventory and program logistics.
- Participate in staff meetings and program planning.
Preferred Qualifications
Students interested in harm reduction, HIV/STI prevention, health equity, community-based healthcare, and grassroots public health are especially encouraged to apply.
Experience with research, data analysis, GIS, program evaluation, or nonprofit work is helpful but not required.

Non-Profit Management

Position Overview
The Nonprofit Management Intern will work alongside BSLA leadership to support the organization's administrative, operational, fundraising, communications, and organizational development needs.
This position is a good fit for students interested in nonprofit management, public administration, business, communications, public policy, or organizational leadership who want hands-on experience working inside a growing grassroots nonprofit.
Responsibilities
Depending on the intern's interests and organizational needs, responsibilities may include:
- Support volunteer recruitment, onboarding, and coordination.
- Assist with event planning and logistics.
- Research potential grants, funders, and funding opportunities.
- Assist with grant applications and reporting.
- Help maintain organizational records and internal systems.
- Help develop organizational policies, procedures, and internal resources.
- Support special projects based on the intern's interests and BSLA's needs.
Preferred Qualifications
Students interested in grassroots organizing, mutual aid, nonprofit operations, harm reduction, health equity, and community-led organizations are particularly encouraged to apply.
Previous nonprofit experience is helpful but not required.
